Policy Planning
The importance of transport policy is huge. Without a strong policy background, desires and aspirations for improvements to the transport network could not be achieved.
The key policy documents within Bath and North East Somerset, South Gloucestershire and Bristol is the Joint Local Transport Plan. This is a statutory document that all local transport authorities have to produce. It set out the transport related goals and objectives that the West of England aims to complete during the lifetime of the plan, with the overall objective being to improve the transport system and quality of life in the region; of particular interest may be the Walking Supplementary Document.
Additionally the Core Strategy helps the Council to shape the nature and direction of physical change within each Council's area. It provides the strategic policy framework for how we manage the development and use of land up to 2026.
Last year a leaflet entitled ‘Travel Better’ leaflet was produced jointly by the four authorities within the West of England area as a guide to local sustainable travel. This includes a list of events such as ‘National Walk to School Week’.
